Forced Updates

Lawsuits filed against Microsoft

While introducing Windows 10, Microsoft offered Windows 10 for free to all windows 7 & 8 users. During this offer, they first check whether the machine is eligible for Windows 10 or not. Microsoft downloaded huge files on all eligible machines so that installation can be easy for users but end users were unhappy with this as they used their precious data without user consent.  Last year, in German, Microsoft was taken to court as they downloaded approximate 6 GB of data was used without user consent. After one year of legal proceedings, Microsoft accepted their mistake and also said that we will not download any files without user's permission.

How will be updates delivered now?

On receiving an upgrade, you will now get a prompt that will offer you multiple options for your updates. You can either choose to restart your machine, manually set time to remind again and snooze. And yes, if you keep it idle any automatic actions will not be taken by your operating system as per the report from Microsoft. The snooze option gives you a minimum of 3 days to 35 days from the time of receiving an update. Once snooze period is over, you can delay until next day so, by this way you can delay updates as per your wish. We would recommend you to install updates regularly to stay safe from many attacks performed on the internet. Updating weekly is good manner.

Microsoft said in a statement that " In windows 10 creators update we have heard many users and optimized windows 10 accordingly. Many of users faced a problem when their machine restarted during an unexpected time. So, An important change we have made is users can control when to install updates on their devices as well as restart it".
